The deeper irony is that the people American systems label as "burdens" often carry exactly what sustainable innovation needs — time, observational patience, ground-level environmental knowledge, and zero stake in protecting the status quo. The unhoused person who has lived outside for years knows microclimates, seasonal patterns, and resource locations that housed people never notice.


The African model doesn't romanticize poverty — it simply never separates the person from their utility to the collective.


The American model invented that separation. And then built a multi-billion dollar nonprofit industrial complex to manage the damage.
